Casual Employees

Casual employees are employees who:

  • can work varying hours;
  • are paid by the hour;
  • do not have access to all the benefits that permanent employees receive, e.g. paid annual leave and paid personal leave; and
  • have a higher minimum hourly rate of pay (which is at least 25% higher than that of permanent employees) – this is to compensate casual employees for the other benefits to which they are not entitled.
