The Case

Label Manufacturers Australia Pty Ltd v Chatzopoulos (2022)

Mr Chatzopoulos was employed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Label Manufacturers Australia Pty Ltd (LMA), and previously as the CEO of another company in the same corporate group.

Mr Chatzopoulos’ role was made redundant, and between June and December 2021 he was placed on gardening leave. In May 2022, Mr Chatzopoulos sought to commence employment with Reflex Labels & Packaging Asia Pacific Pty Limited (Reflex), a competitor of LMA. Mr Chatzopoulos’ post-employment restraints were not due to expire until December 2023.
