Do we have to pay wages early if the normal pay date falls on a weekend or public holiday?

Q: When an employer pays its employees on a monthly basis, is there an obligation to pay on the same day of the month every month? If that date falls on a weekend, is there an obligation to pay employees on the working day prior to this?

A: Unless stated in an employment contract, award or agreement, there is no obligation to pay employees on the same day each month or to bring forward the date of payment if it falls on a weekend. However, you must ensure that payment of wages occurs at least monthly.
