Reducing hours in line with JobKeeper payments
I am in the process of reducing an employee’s working hours to be in line with the JobKeeper payment, as the work they do has dried up. I am getting resistance from the employee who says that they should either be at home receiving it or taking their normal wage for less hours. If you could offer some advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Under the JobKeeper legislation, you are able to reduce the number of hours employees work under a JobKeeper-enabling direction. The employee must receive the full fortnightly JobKeeper payment for which they are entitled as a minimum. If their reduced working hours attract an amount of pay that exceeds this amount, they must be paid the additional sum. So long as the requirements for the direction are met, the employee must comply with the direction.
