Requesting to cancel annual leave
Are we able to refuse an employee cancelling pre-approved annual leave, and still make them take the leave?
An employer is only able to refuse cancelling pre-approved annual leave if it is reasonable in all the circumstances. This will depend on the reason why the employee is seeking to cancel their request to take the leave, their personal circumstances and the amount of notice provided. If it is unreasonable to refuse the employee’s request to cancel the leave, you are unable to direct the employee to take it.
