Changes to Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program

By Kelly Godfrey

In January 2023, the Australian Government’s changes to the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program took effect.

There is a new Australian Apprenticeships Priority List, which is much longer and now contains 110 occupations that are more diverse. You can view the list at www.dewr.gov.au.

The incentives for those eligible apprenticeship occupations are:

  • a 10% wage subsidy for the first and second 12-month periods of engagement, up to $1,500 per quarter; and
  • a 5% wage subsidy in the third 12-month period, up to $750 per quarter.

For those apprentices hired in occupations that are not covered on the list, employers receive a hiring incentive of $1,750 for a full-time apprentice and $875 for a part-time apprentice.

If you require more information on whether you are eligible for an apprenticeship incentive, visit www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au/aus-employer-incentives.
